Lab Manager

Tierra Biosciences is a VC-backed biotech startup based in San Leandro, CA. We are developing a standardized and high-throughput protein synthesis platform. We are looking for an organized and resourceful person to run core operations in the lab. These operations include everything from procurement/equipment maintenance to assisting in running the Sol platform. This is a startup role and some combination of science, operations management and people skills is expected, along with a willingness to both delegate and do all areas of work.

 

Responsibilities/Expectations:

  • Understand the functioning of the company and establish systems of organization where needed
  • Coordinate execution of standardized work for commercial projects, ensuring adherence to SOPs
  • Proactively identify issues in lab, identify possible solutions and communicate to supervisors and the team 
  • Stay on top of safety, inventory, and equipment
  • When needed, take care of tasks like buffer/media prep at the bench
  • Maintain a presence at the lab as first point of contact for safety, deliveries, etc
  • Maintain outreach with other onsite companies as well as with building management

 

Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences (biology, chemistry, etc)
  • Work experience in industry/government/university lab
  • Experience with biochemical techniques (eg. buffer preparation, aliquoting, pipetting)
  • Exceptional organizational abilities
  • Desire to do work that enables and supports others

 

This is a full time position onsite at our San Leandro location.
